What Is an Urban Wildlife Biologist?

You may think that the combination of “urban” and “wildlife” is an oxymoron, but that’s where the “biologist” comes in. Wildlife was present everywhere before human land development, so this type of biologist has a role in ensuring the continuation of native species. Guest speaker Natasia Moore, TPWD, will cover what an urban wildlife biologist is, the importance of these biologists, some challenges they face, and ways they help people and wildlife.

Ms. Moore holds degrees in Natural Resources Management and in Wildlife, Aquatics, and Wildland Science and Management from Texas Tech University. Her professional experience includes conducting biological and environmental surveys for sensitive wildlife species, evaluating habitat, providing technical assistance to private developers, and providing technical assistance with public policy, ordinances, city and park master plans, and transportation planning.

This meeting will be held in person only, in the auditorium of the AgriLife building at 607 N. Vandeveer in Burnet. Doors to the meeting will open at 9:30 a.m. for social time and light refreshments. The business portion of the meeting will start at 10:00 a.m. and Ms. Moore will begin her presentation immediately afterwards. Weather permitting, there will be a pre-meeting bird walk at Haley Nelson Park off Hwy. 29 in Burnet.
