This event begins with an optional 7:30 a.m. guided bird walk at the Shield Ranch, and features five speakers over the course of the morning. Dr. Tania Homayoun, the state ornithologist, will kick off the event with a talk about the current status of North American birds, factors driving declines in bird populations, and how our landscapes can help conserve bird populations. Three TPWD staff - two of whom are wildlife biologists - will discuss support for rare or endangered bird species. Then Grant Lawrence, a Shield Ranch operations manager, will wrap up the day with a highlights tour of birding and site management at the ranch.
Cost to register for this event is $50/person for Travis Audubon members or $65/person for non-members. Participants will have to complete a liability waiver, and are advised to bring their own water bottles and wear closed-toe walking shoes. Snacks will be provided.
