“How to Get Your Very Own: Eastern Screech Owls,” Friends of Inks Lake State Park

  • Inks Lake State Park, Main Central Park (by the snow cone stand) 3630 Park Road 4 West Burnet, TX, 78611 United States (map)

Retired Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden Mike Mitchell will talk about native owls, particularly the eastern screech owl, and how owl boxes can be made to view them in your own backyard.

Eastern Screech Owls are amazing creatures. Mike will describe owl box construction, including specific details about how to build or buy them readily. Placement and proximity of the owl boxes also will be covered. Mike will present the biology of Eastern Screech Owls in easy terms, including their courtship, mating, nesting, and eating habits. He also will cover how to view the owls via cameras placed within or near the boxes.

There is no registration or fee required to attend this presentation. However, all attendees will need to have valid day passes to enter the park. Day passes can be purchased here for $7/person. Bring your own lawn chairs and dress appropriately for the weather. Please be advised that this event may be cancelled in the event of inclement weather (which isn’t looking likely at the time of this posting).
