Information Meeting & Public Hearing, Proposed Endangered Species, USFWS

The US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is proposing to protect six freshwater mussels in Central Texas through the Endangered Species Act. These include Texas Fatmucket, Texas Pimpleback, and Texas Fawnsfoot, all of which are found in the Llano watershed. These species have become threatened due to decreases in water quality, loss of stream flow, riparian and instream habitat fragmentation and degradation of instream habitats. USFWS is accepting public comments in writing until October 25, 2021. USFWS also is offering two virtual informational meetings on Tuesday, September 14 and Thursday, September 16 from 5pm - 6pm Central. Following each of these meetings, there will be an opportunity to provide oral comments during a public hearing from 6:30pm - 8:30pm. Interested individuals can see the full details, including what this might mean for landowners, register for the meetings, and indicate if they plan to comment during the hearing using the links provided here.
