“Plant Defense: The Eternal War with Animals,” North Central Ch., NPSOT

Haven’t we all had the disappointing experience of planting something identified as “deer resistant,” only to wake up one morning and find that “Bambi” mowed it down to the ground? Or seeing a beautiful, healthy mountain laurel get ravaged by Genista caterpillars? Dr. George Diggs, an evolutionary biologist and botanist at Austin College, will shed some light on striking a balance between keeping the native plants in our yards healthy, and allowing nature to do its thing.
