Ethnobotanist Dr. Leslie Bush is the guest speaker at this meeting of the Llano Uplift Archeological Society. She will define the field of ethnobotany, and highlight key findings from some of her most recent projects. These stem from her work at Hueco Tanks, a significant Indigenous rock art and occupation site in west Texas. She also will share some insights from her analysis of a probable Karankawa dugout canoe discovered on the Texas coast.
Dr. Bush has over 20 years of professional experience. In that time she has conducted analyses on charcoal and other plant remains from archeological sites across North America. These analyses shed light on the traditional knowledge and customs of indigenous peoples with regard to plants, including how plants were used for medical, religious, and other purposes like food and shelter.
