Discovering Birds in Unlikely Places
Invited speaker Jennifer Bristol will talk about the fascinating concept of birding in places that may seem unconventional—such as parking lots and cemeteries. In her book Cemetery Birding, she uncovers how cemeteries—often rich with history, quiet ambiance, and abundant natural features—serve as ideal birding locations. These spaces, typically marked by mature trees, wildflowers, and open grasslands, are not only peaceful but attract a wide range of bird species.
Drawing from her extensive experience, Jennifer will share insights on why these unusual places, often overlooked by casual bird watchers, can be treasure troves of wildlife and birding opportunities. She’ll highlight nearly 100 cemetery locations across Texas, from the bustling heart of Houston to the serene, wide-open spaces of West Texas and explain the types of birds you might find in different seasons.
